Swansboro Rotary Club King Mackerel Blue Water Tournament was established in 1989 and has been a major fundraiser for the club. In its early years, the tournament had less than 100 participants and a purse of $10,000. However, in 1988, the prize money had reached $100,000 and Lee Moore was the master de ceremonies. This tournament attracted more fishermen and was also the first to be included on the Southern Kingfish Association circuit.
