Florida snook fisherman will be able to help you catch record-breaking snook. Find out the best times to fish, the best lures and where you can find the largest snook in Florida. We'll also be covering how to use a snook-catching fish finder rig.

Florida's best time of the year to catch snook

Early spring is the best time to fish for snook. This is when they start to leave their winter hides and move towards flats and backwater areas that are closer to larger bodies of water. As the waters heat up, snook will start to move further out to inlets or passes. Both the incoming tides and outgoing tides are prime times to feed snook. However, snook can also fish around mangrove islands and bridges during outgoing tides for fish.

Fall fishing for snook is just as productive as spring, as the snook migrate back to their winter holding areas in inland rivers and creeks. The shorter days mean more fishing time during the evening, and the snook bite is often greatest at night. A little early morning fishing can bring in plenty of action even for the most experienced angler. This is an excellent time to go snookfishing in Florida.

Snook fishing: Best lures

These five snook-specific, topwater snook jigs are the perfect choice. Snook are primarily dependent on shrimp and other white baitfish. White lures work best in clear water, while dark colors, such as chartreuse, will work well in murky areas. Snook can be very picky so lures that reflect their food are a good idea to hook them.

Snook love baitfish. Any small fish you can find in surf will work as long as it's cut into small pieces. The cut bait should be approximately two inches thick. It should then be placed on a fishfinder rig with 5/0 circular hooks. Tie a line around the float to make live bait. The hook should be at least two feet above the bottom. Snook can be attracted to any baitfish, including artificial ones, and will pounce on them.

Best places to catch a record snook

Big Snook are known for preferring water temperatures between 60 and 64 degrees. For these big fish, you can search the flats or under bridges to find them. Fly fishermen can find these fish in canals and mangrove shorelines in Southwest Florida. The smaller snooks will usually swim below the water's surface so it is important to not cast or wade too far. While they will swim alongside you, some may come out of the first bar. To find the best flats for catching giants, fish the flats around Gasparilla Island.

You should choose calm, protected areas for fishing for snook. These areas include the mangrove-lined shorelines or brackish waters. Snook may be alerted if you make loud noises while out fishing. If possible, keep your excitement to yourself until you hook a trophy. While you don't wish to scare the animals away, it's best to keep your excitement to a minimum until you land a record.

How To

Why should you use a spinning rod?

Spinning rods are used to cast your lure into water without having to leave the boat. This is a great option if you don’t want to spend too much time returning to the boat after casting. The spinning rod allows you to cast from any angle and still have control over your line. The rod has three main components; handle, butt section, and reel seat. You hold the rod with your fingers and grip the shaft. The hook's tip can be attached to the rod's butt section. Finally, the reel's seat holds the line and the reel. There are many kinds of rods on the market today. Some rods are only suitable for specific types of fishing such as trolling or casting. Others are intended to be used for different purposes, such fly fishing or spin fishing, as well as bait fishing.

The type and species of fish that you are trying to catch will dictate the type of rod you use. You would need a heavy-duty rod if your goal is to catch large predatory fish like pike and bass. A lighter-weight rod might work best if you were targeting smaller species like trout or salmon. You could even purchase multiple rod sizes depending upon how big you plan to catch the fish.

Spinning rods aren't just for freshwater fishing. They are also used frequently for saltwater fishing. Saltwater spinning rods are generally heavier than their freshwater counterparts because they require stronger materials to withstand the rigors of saltwater. In addition, saltwater spinners usually feature a larger diameter rod with a shorter length. This allows them cast farther distances. However, keep in mind that there are some downsides to using a spinning rod for saltwater fishing. Saltwater spinning reels come without reels, which is a big difference from freshwater rods. Instead, you will have to buy one separately. They can also be very expensive. A spinning rod is an option if you like to catch bigger fish.

Spin fishing refers to angling where a spin fisherman uses a spinning reel to cast a weighted bait into the water. When the lure swims through the water, it spins around the weighted center point. This causes the lure move erratically through the water, making fish difficult to spot. Fish may mistakenly consider the lure food and begin eating it. The lure will draw more fish to itself. The line attached the lure can then be reeled by the fisherman. After the lure is retrieved, the fisherman can continue the process until he has caught the desired number.
